Once you are on the ferry, you can choose to sit inside or outside or outside for spectacular views from the Cape Fear River looking back toward Southport & Oak Island Lighthouse, and keep an eye out for dolphins! When you arrive onto Bald Head Island, rent bikes or a golf cart and explore this tranquil island where cars are not allowed. Drive through the Bald Head Island Maritime Forest Preserve and enjoy the cool breeze as you drive (or bike!) through the tunnel of oak trees. You may choose to simply walk around the marina, shop & grab lunch, then visit The Old Baldy Lighthouse by making your way across an iconic bridge over the marsh or follow the paved roads until you reach the base of the lighthouse. Season permitting, you can climb all 108 steps to the very top of Old Baldy Lighthouse offering a 360-degree panoramic view of the island is simply breathtaking! It’s definitely worth the workout. After that, choose any of the 20+ beach access points and relax by the ocean as long as you’d like. Just be sure to check the ferry schedule to be sure you don’t miss your ride back to Southport!
